Solar Hot Water Systems
How It Works
Contrary to popular belief, solar water heating systems do not heat water by pumping it into chambers on your roof! Instead, panels on the roof contain a special solar fluid, which circulates to your water heater tank to transfer the heat to your water.
- Heat is collected in the solar fluid collectors.
- Heated solar fluid is pumped to the insulated tank.
- The controller circulates the solar fluid through tubes in the tank to heat the water to the desired temperature.
- Hot water from the tank is used in your home.
- Cooled solar fluid is returned to the collectors.
This circulation loop will continue as long as there is heat to be drawn from the collectors. During times when there is little or no sun, a backup heating system will be activated to provide adequate hot water.

Schuco Standard Water Heating Packages are equally compatible with new construction or retro fit jobs, and their flexibility allows for a variety of installation options, including flush mount, rail mount, flat roof and even ground mount.
Schuco Slim V Plus is a highly effiicient solar collector for thermal hot water systems. The highly selective absorber coating provides maximum energy gain, and optimal thermal insulation minimizes losses. The serpentine copper piping is designed to work with closed loop, pressurized systems using non-toxic freeze proof propylene glycol as a heat transfer medium. These collectors give the clean attractive appearance of a high-tech skylight.
